Stephen Whitson

Sixth Degree Black Belt

H. Stephen Whitson is a lifelong martial artist with decades of dedicated training in Isshinryu Karate and traditional martial disciplines. His journey in the arts has been marked not only by technical development, but by a deep commitment to the principles of character, discipline, and personal growth that define true karate.

Mr. Whitson holds the rank of Roku Dan (6th Degree Black Belt) in Isshinryu Karate and maintains strong ties to the Okinawan Karatedo Union (OKU), honoring the teachings passed down through and preserved through instructors such as GrandMaster Allen Wheeler and Grandmaster Richard Trevillian. His training reflects a respect for tradition while remaining focused on practical application and lifelong study.

In addition to Isshinryu Karate, he is also a practitioner of Tai Chi. He incorporates Tai Chi into his teaching to develop balance, control, and internal awareness.

As the co-founder of Silver Horse Martial Arts, Mr. Whitson emphasizes that karate is not simply about fighting; it is about forging character. His instruction is rooted in the belief that consistent training builds not only physical ability, but also integrity, humility, and resilience. Students are encouraged to carry these principles beyond the dojo into their daily lives.

Mr. Whitson’s teaching philosophy reflects a balance of tradition and purpose: to preserve the art, to develop the individual, and to pass on a standard worthy of those who came before.
